So, Johnson says not dating Natalie Gulbis

So, Johnson says not dating Gulbis. Natalie Gulbis and Dustin Johnson can't get their story straight. Are they dating or aren't they?

Last week Natalie said they are, today Dustin said they aren't.

As a refresher: Last week at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, Gulbis showed up and followed Johnson in the gallery. She told Golf.com that she and Johnson are dating.

Johnson declined comment. No big deal, he's a quiet guy. But then on the Sunday of the Tournament of Champions, Johnson said he was withdrawing from this week's Sony Open and returning home. "I've got to go take care of some things at home," Johnson said. "Something came up."

Johnson's WD and especially that comment led to rumors that Gulbis had confirmed a relationship with Johnson before Johnson had fully ended his previous relationship. Johnson and Amanda Caulder dated for years; they shared a house, and Caulder was with Johnson as recently as the Ryder Cup, which she attended with him.

Today, saying he wanted to put those rumors to rest, Johnson spoke out. The Associated Press' Doug Ferguson reported that Johnson said he broke up with Caulder a couple months ago.

And that he's not dating Gulbis. The AP: "Johnson says to suggest he went home to repair a relationship is 'completely false' because he's not in one. He says he has spent some time with Gulbis, but that they are not dating."

So Johnson and Gulbis are not dating, at least according to Johnson. I bet it's Natalie's turn to have no comment. Such are the perils of dating - or "spending time with" someone - when you're in the public eye and in a celebrity-mad culture.

I would just like to go on the record and say that I am also not dating Natalie Gulbis.
